Accredited teaching programmes

The Centre for Teaching and Learning offers programmes at a range of levels for staff who teach or support learning across the collegiate University, including DPhil students, academics, senior tutors and professional services staff.

Engagement with our programmes enables participants to contextualise their teaching or learning support practice within higher education scholarship.

In addition to our accredited teaching programmes - Advancing Teaching and Learning and the Teaching Recognition Scheme - those new to teaching can enrol on a short Preparing for Teaching and Learning at Oxford course, which is delivered within divisions.

For staff who have an active role in teaching and/or supporting taught students’ academic skills development, we offer the Developing Academic Skills workshop series, and for staff  for who have learning technology/digital education as the main element of their role, we run the Certified Membership of Association for Learning Technology programme

Please note:

Our Advancing Teaching and Learning programme and Teaching Recognition Scheme are currently being reaccredited with Advance HE. We are therefore not accepting applications for either programme for Michaelmas term 2024.

We will be launching a new accredited teaching programme later this academic year to support you to gain Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).

Preparation for Learning and Teaching at Oxford course

The Preparation for Learning and Teaching at Oxford (PLTO) course is an introduction to teaching at Oxford. It is tailored to local requirements and run by departments, faculties and divisions (not the Centre for Teaching and Learning). It is intended for DPhil or postdoctoral researchers who wish to start teaching at Oxford. College staff are welcome to apply.

Developing Academic Skills workshop series

The Developing Academic Skills workshop series is designed to support all colleagues who have an active role in teaching and/or supporting undergraduate and postgraduate taught students’ academic skills development. This includes learning development officers, graduate study advisers or mentors, and academic skills lecturers or tutors in colleges, departments, faculties or professional services.

Certified Membership of Association for Learning Technology programme

The annual Certified Membership of Association for Learning Technology (CMALT) programme helps staff who have learning technology or digital education as the main element of their role to gain an internationally recognised professional accreditation.

Depending on experience, upon completion of the programme, staff can apply to the Association of Learning Technology (ALT) to be awarded either Associated CMALT, CMALT or Senior CMALT.
